Climbing
During
the last few years
a big
interest
in
climbing
was
developed
in
Kalymnos.
Two
climbers from
Italy,
who accidentally
visited
the
island,
discovered, to everybody’s
surprise, the
big
and
various
climbing
possibilities
in
the
mountains
of
Kalymnos. Since
then, there
has been a large
inrush
of
climbers.

Routes
were
opened
and
organised
mainly
in
the
north
of
the
island. These
routes
have
been
given
names
from
the
Greek
Mythology
(Odyssey,
Muses).

A
climbing
school
has
been
established
with
the
aim
to
educate
Kalymnian
climbers,
to maintain
the
safety
of
the
routes
in
the
area
and
to
renew
them.

Kalymnos has
one
of
the
safest
and
of
the
most
excellent
quality
climbing
field.
The
climate
of
the
island
is
ideal
for
this
sport,
throughout
the
year
(from
March
until the
end of October
), it is
shady
enough
and
it
doesn’t
rain
often.

Therefore,
for those
of
you
who
are
keen
on
climbing,
Kalymnos
is
a
real
challenge.
